BottleChallenge

BottleChallenge League for companies

Get the whole company playing against the single-use bottle

Employees fill their bottles with tap water instead of buying bottled water. Departments compete for the score, the best get prizes you come up with yourselves, and the company has figures it can show clients, its bank and its auditor.

A team of up to 10 people works straight away. When you want to bring in the whole company, split it into departments and use the data summaries for reports, write to us and we will switch this on for your team.

A choice made several times a day

Water from the vending machine, or a bottle filled in the kitchen? Everyone decides on their own, usually on the way from one meeting to the next. BottleChallenge gives people a reason to choose the bottle more often: every bottle filled raises the whole team’s score.

After filling their bottle, an employee holds their phone to the BottleChallenge sticker by the tap or water cooler, and the app adds the bottle to the team’s score. Nobody types anything in by hand. The table and the department ranking update automatically.

How to start

  1. 01

    You start the company team

In the panel on the website, with your company name and logo. The team gets a code that employees use to join.

  2. 02

    Employees join with the code

In the free app for iPhone and Android, in a few seconds. You can split them into departments or offices.

  3. 03

    Employees fill their bottles

After filling up, they hold their phone to the BottleChallenge sticker at the place with water, in the office or elsewhere. If your office has no sticker yet, write to us.

  4. 04

    The game begins

A season with a table, a department ranking, duels with other companies and prizes for the most active.

What team leads get

People and departments

Everyone in the team with their number of bottles filled and whether they were active this week. You assign people to departments, and the panel compares the departments’ results.

Duels and tournaments

A challenge to another team for the number of days you choose, or a tournament of several teams with one table. You set both up in the app.

Prizes

A day off, lunch with the board, a donation to a cause the winners choose. You set the condition yourselves: a number of bottles filled or a place in the team ranking. The app shows everyone how many bottles they still need or where they stand right now.

Data summaries

Figures for the whole months or the season you choose, ready to paste into a questionnaire, a report or a message to employees.

Data summaries

One source of figures for clients, reports and employees

A client sends a sustainability questionnaire, the bank asks about environmental practices, and the communications team wants to write a post. Based on the number of bottles filled, the panel prepares ready text for each of these occasions. You choose where the text is going, and the panel tells you which field to paste it into.

  • Client and bank questionnaires

    VSME

A description of the practice for B2, B7 and C2, with the B2 table laid out as in the European Commission’s recommendation.

  • Sustainability statement

    ESRS

The action for E5-2 and the target for E5-3, or supplementary information when the topic is not material for you.

  • GRI report

    GRI 306

Text for disclosure 306-2: actions against waste and how the data are collected.

  • Environmental management system

    ISO 14001, EMAS

An objective card with an indicator, a note on employee awareness and passages for the environmental statement.

  • Health and safety

    national module

Places with drinking water at your sites and how employees use them.

  • External communication

    Directive 2024/825

Sentences with figures for your website and social media, and hints on words that need care.

  • Internal communication

Intranet graphics in three formats and a short message for every month.

Practices. Since 1 June 2026, we have run BottleChallenge League for our employees. In the period from 1 June to 30 September 2026, 132 participants took part. Of these, 104 filled a bottle at least once (43.3% of average headcount). In total, participants filled 2,912 bottles, 1,980 of them at our own sites.

Policies. [to be completed: whether the programme follows from an environmental policy]

Targets. Our target is 50% of employees active in the programme by 31 December 2026.

Copy any passage with one button, or download the whole summary as PDF, DOCX or XLSX in any of eight languages.

Every summary has a number you can check

Every downloaded file has a number and a QR code. The number has a random part, so only someone who has the full number can open the check page. There, a client, a bank or an auditor sees the figures as the summary was issued, with its SHA-256 hash. So they can check that the figures in the file have not been changed. Nobody examines whether the figures themselves are correct. If the figures for the same period change, the next download creates a new summary that replaces the old one, and the check page says so.

What this is, and what it is not

The panel provides aggregated data and ready text, and your company writes the report. The summary is not a certificate or an audit result and gives no kilograms of plastic or CO2, because the number of bottles filled is not a measure of the mass of waste. So it makes no claim you could not defend.

Employee privacy

Summaries are aggregated

Reports and downloaded files show aggregated figures only. Every figure covers at least five active people. Departments, sites and countries with fewer than five active people are merged into “other”.

Everyone joins on their own

Employees join from their own account and can leave at any time. For each person, team leads see the display name, the number of bottles filled, the streak and whether they were active this week. They never see when someone filled a bottle, e-mail addresses or where someone fills up. The results must not be used to assess employees.

Deleting an account

Employees can delete their account at any time. Their data disappear from the app and are not included in any later summary. Summaries issued earlier contain aggregated figures only.

What companies ask us

Do employees have to install an app?

Yes. After filling their bottle, the employee holds their phone to the BottleChallenge sticker, and the app adds the bottle to the team’s score. The app is free on iPhone and Android, and joining the team takes a few seconds.

What about people who work remotely or on the road?

We count bottles filled at any place with a BottleChallenge sticker, including outside the office. The summary shows separately how many bottles were filled at your own sites.

Won’t people get bored after a month?

The game runs in seasons, and the table starts from zero every season. On top of that come duels with other companies, tournaments and prizes you set yourselves.

Can we put the panel’s figures in our report?

Yes, that is what they are for. Every tab tells you where in the report the text goes, and the indicator dictionary and the method are in every downloaded file. The company is responsible for what its report says.

Where should a large company start?

With one department or office. Once you see how it works, we extend the team to the whole company and switch on departments and the data summaries.

Start with one department

You can set up the team in a few minutes, and the first bottle filled can appear in the table today. If you would rather talk first, write to us.
